The Public Service Commission has advertised one thousand posts for the recruitment of new Probation Officers. This drive to recruit additional officers has been very well welcomed by the department of Probation and Aftercare Service. It comes at a time when the department has been facing staffing gaps arising from new and increased roles, mandates, and increased demand for existing services.

The new officers will enhance the department’s capacity in meeting its strategic directions of a just, safe, secure and crime-free society. Members of the public who meet the required qualifications are encouraged to apply for the posts via the commission’s website, www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke

Probation and Aftercare Service held a two-day professional meeting to discuss pertinent issues on the implementation of the Power of Mercy Programme in Mombasa from 24th to 25th January 2019. The meeting attended by the Director of Probation Service, Mrs. Mary Mbau, HSC and the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee CEO/ Secretary, Mr. Michael Kagika, EBS drawn from probation practioners from all regions in the country. The purpose of the meeting was to share experiences and challenges, and to set standards.

Probation and Aftercare Service has been facilitating the exercise of reviewing prisoners’ sentences to help reduce the penal population of already congested prisons. The exercise which targets ten thousand inmates, has seen the engagement of Probation Officers countrywide in preparation of Sentence Review Reports and in supervision of offenders whose sentences have been reviewed. On the 31st December 2018, H.E the President Uhuru Kenya, assented to the Statute Law Miscellaneous Amendment Act No. 18 of 2018 which has given effect to many statutes including the Probation of Offenders Act Cap 64 and the Community Service Orders Act Cap 93. The said amendments took effect from the 18th January 2019.
