Probation and After Care Service on 20th August 2020 joined stakeholders in the official launch of the Probation Art Competition project in Nairobi. The competition, themed ‘Probation: A New Beginning’ is the concept for the art project featuring children under supervision in Probation and After Care Service. The children will be sharing their personal experiences of the justice system through creative expression in the form of drawings, paintings and collages. The competition is a joint initiative of Probation and Aftercare Service (PACS), European Union (EU) and United Nations Office on Drugs and

Crime (UNODC) under the Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery (PLEAD).

Officiating during the launch, Senior Deputy Secretary, State Department for Correctional Services, Mrs. Lina Too appreciated the support given in providing relevant materials for the project. “It is my hope that good learning points will be generated from this project the can be used to inform necessary changes on the best ways to provide correctional services that will respond to their needs,” she said.

A time frame of one month was given for the children to put their efforts into creating different artworks and potentially contribute more than one piece of art that will be exhibited later in the year.
